1. EmploymentThe key criterion for success in implementing information systems is the employment rate of graduates in this educational program and the feedback from employers regarding graduates of the Information Systems Department. Therefore, the department conducts annual monitoring of graduate employment and surveys of employers. According to the results, the program ranked 3rd nationwide in the Atameken rating. Each year, a Job Fair is held for graduates with the participation of employers in the relevant training areas. Various trainings and consultations conducted by employers are also organized for the students of L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
Information about events related to employment and internships is posted on the university website in the Career section (http://www.enu.kz/ru/karera). The database of agreements for professional internships is also available there.
The results of the employers’ survey showed that the majority of employers are satisfied with the quality of training provided to graduates of the Information Systems Department. They highlighted the graduates’ active attitude and their ability to pursue further learning. Employers also noted the strong skills of graduates of the educational programs 5B070300 – Information Systems and 6M070300 – Information Systems in Organizational and Managerial Activities for IS Development. In the 2024–2025 academic year, for the first time, separate meetings and job fairs were organized in the faculties with employers specifically for each major. Within the Faculty of Information Technology, 23 companies participated in the meeting. The results were extremely positive: at this job fair, 22 Information Systems graduates obtained employment.
The staff responsible for graduate employment at the faculty over the past five years were awarded a University Certificate of Appreciation.
The results of the employer survey showed that most of them were satisfied with the quality of training of the graduates of the Information Systems Department. They highlighted the graduates’ proactive attitude and their ability to continue learning. Employers also noted the strong skills of the graduates of the educational programs 5B070300 – Information Systems and 6M070300 – Information Systems for Organizational and Managerial Activities in IS Development. In order to support graduate employment, a series of activities aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation with employers is being conducted. A meeting was held with representatives of the company Seven Hills of Kazakhstan and 3rd- and 4th-year students of the FIT and FPhT faculties. The purpose of the meeting was to arrange professional internships and facilitate student employment. During the meeting, students were active, asked questions to the employers, and exchanged contacts. We look forward to fruitful cooperation with Seven Hills of Kazakhstan. All verification certificates related to graduate employment are recorded in the Platonus system, and a dataset is available in the Career Department (in Excel format). As of today, the employers’ database includes 1,440 partner organizations (reference: Astana – 254, Almaty – 121, South Kazakhstan Region – 190, East Kazakhstan – 85, Kostanay – 65, Karaganda – 49, North Kazakhstan – 36, Pavlodar – 18, Zhambyl – 13, Mangystau Region – 8, Ekibastuz – 34, Atyrau – 14) (Appendix 28). A database has been created for organizations with which cooperation agreements have been signed regarding student professional internships. Reference: Among our corporate partners are the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, «Samruk-Energo» JSC, «KazMunayGas Exploration & Production» JSC, «Eurasian Bank» JSC, «Tsesnabank» JSC, «Kazakhstan Temir Zholy» NC JSC, «Financial Center» JSC, «Asia Auto» JSC, the Museum of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Astana Su Arnasy, and others. There are 70 departmental branches operating at various enterprises, aimed at practice-oriented training of students. Together with employers, the university conducts practical classes, seminars, conferences, as well as roundtable discussions on issues related to organizing and completing internships and job placement. 2. TrainingPractical training is an important component of the educational process and is aimed at reinforcing the theoretical knowledge acquired by students during their studies, as well as developing professional competencies in the field of information technology. Practical training is a mandatory part of the curriculum and is designed to prepare students for professional activity. The objectives of the internship include acquiring hands-on skills, consolidating theoretical knowledge, mastering professional abilities and competencies, and developing organizational skills for working in a team. In accordance with state compulsory educational standards, students complete several types of professional practice during their studies: industrial (professional) practice and pre-diploma practice. The purpose of the educational (introductory) practice is to familiarize students with the fundamentals of their future professional activity, to provide insight into the specifics of their chosen field of study, and to introduce the functions and tasks of future professional work. Educational practice is conducted in the first year under the supervision of relevant departments in the university’s educational laboratories. Industrial practice is organized in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years after completing a cycle of specialized disciplines that require practical training. The industrial practice program is developed and approved by the graduating departments. The bases for industrial practice are organizations that correspond to the profile of the student’s specialty. The department and faculty regularly hold meetings with employers, organize round tables and scientific seminars. Continuous monitoring of graduates is carried out. Together with the university, faculty, and department, job fairs and graduate placement activities are organized. All data on graduate employment is periodically entered into the Platonus AIS electronic system. |
