ENU scientists created a prototype of ChatGPT in the Kazakh language
23.02.2024

Scientists of LN Gumilev National Research Institute of Artificial Intelligence have developed a domestic analogue of the ChatGPT chatbot in the Kazakh language.
The scientists of the Ukrainian National University developed the system of artificial intelligence in the state language within 5 months. The Kazakh model of the ChatGPT chatbot can analyze large amounts of data, answer questions, create texts, and also knows all the morphological and syntactic rules of the Kazakh language.
"We created the first large LLM language model in the Kazakh language. The system is able to understand any text in the Kazakh language based on the neural network architecture and respond according to its knowledge. "Our ChatGPT prototype understands the rules of the Kazakh language, remembers all the sequences between letters and syllables, words and sentences, and can also respond syntactically and grammatically correctly and to the extent that it meets the user's request," noted L.N. Gumilev National University. Alibek Barlybaev, director of the research institute "Artificial Intelligence".
Scientists conducted experiments on the preparation of Kazakh literary works, regulatory documents and scientific materials of the system. They are going to propose the use of the artificial intelligence model in the educational process. The chatbot's knowledge can be used to refine the required information.
"Let's say that schoolchildren, while preparing for the exam, did not understand some information on the test, for example, a mathematical equation or a term in chemistry. They want to clarify, but there will be no teacher next to them. At that time, children ask the system a question and get a very quick and short answer. They can then ask follow-up questions. This technology can also be used for students of primary courses, who often study general education courses," noted Dr. Alibek Barlybayev.
Today, IT scientists and specialists plan to strengthen the technical and server capabilities of the project and further develop it.
Winner of the "Zhana Asu" grant, senior lecturer of the department Amangeldy N. took part in the Scientific and Innovation Exhibition "Science and Business: Ways of Innovative Development of Kazakhstan"

Exhibition Bett
Associate Professor of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies Aliya Zheksembaevna Kintonova visited the largest international exhibition Bett-2023 in London (UK), where she got acquainted with the latest technologies and innovative solutions in the field of education. Over the four days of the exhibition, over 800 companies from more than 100 countries presented their latest developments and innovations in the field of education, including software, hardware, applications and other technological solutions. Products on display include robotics, online learning, gamification, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence and more. The Bett Exhibition is a premier event in the education industry, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world.

Advanced training of undergraduates
Svanov Asylzhan, a master's student of the department, took a refresher course "Current issues of STEM education" in the period from September 30, 2021 to October 08, 2021 at the Belgrade National Research University.

The best Master's student of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Undergraduates of the department Onalov Nurzhigit, Svanov Asylzhan became the winners of the republican contest "The Best undergraduate of the Republic of Kazakhstan".

As foreign specialists of the department, leading scientists from foreign partner universities are invited, including in the 2021-2022 academic year: PhD Doctor, Professor of Istanbul Technical University (Istanbul, Turkey), Esref Adali to conduct classes for undergraduates of OP 7M06112 - Artificial Intelligence Technologies.

Employees of the department have repeatedly been holders of the title "Best University teacher":
Professor Sharipbai A.A. (2005, 2010, 2021)
Associate Professor Kudubaeva S.A. (2015)
Associate Professor Omarbekova A.S. (2015)
Associate Professor Bekmanova G.T. (2016)
Acting Associate Professor Niyazova R.S. (2018)

Most of the teachers are experts engaged by JSC "National Center for State Scientific and Technical Expertise", JSC "Textbook Center", JSC "Daryn Center" (Sharipbai A.A., Razakhova B.Sh., Omarbekova A.S., Kintonova A.Zh., Turebayeva R.D., etc.) and chairmen of the SAC in other universities (Sharipbai A.A., Bekmanova G.T., Razakhova B.Sh.).Special attention in the activities of the department is paid to the development of international relations with foreign universities. The department cooperates with a number of leading universities of the near and far abroad, including: Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (Minsk, Republic of Belarus); Czech Technical University (Prague, Czech Republic); Lublin Technical University (Lublin, Poland); Istanbul Technical University (Istanbul, Turkey); National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" (Moscow, Russia); St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (St. Petersburg, Russia); North Caucasus Federal University (Stavropol, Russia), University of Western Attica (Athens, Greece), etc.As a result of the active participation of teachers of the department in the implementation of international projects Tempus Promis LMPI, class within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, master's programs "Computer Science" (second competence), "Computational Linguistics", "Administrator for the management and protection of computer systems and networks in enterprises" were developed, which contributes to the development of academic mobility. As part of the exchange of experience with foreign scientists and partner universities, the teaching staff of the department undergo advanced training in the study of modern information technologies and innovative teaching methods. So teachers of the University of Applied Sciences of Savonia (Finland) read courses "bigdata" and "advanced control in automation systems"; teachers of the University of Applied Sciences named after In Berlin (Germany), Boita taught the courses "data mining" and "storing and querying data from the Internet: an introduction to XML and semantic technologies".

The teaching staff of the department attended lectures by foreign teachers: Professors V.V. Nikulin (Binghamton University, USA); S.E. Lyashevsky (Rochester Institute of Technology, USA), M.V. Khlebnikov (Institute of Management Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia), A.F. Tuzovsky (Tomsk Polytechnic University, Russia), A.V. Markov (Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, Republic of Belarus).
Scientific and methodological achievements
Teaching staff of the department are the authors of a number of teaching aids, textbooks, monographs, which are used by students in the educational process. These textbooks are widely available in the library fund of the university.
